Welcome to The Space of Performing Arts here in Taranaki. We are a group of passionate teachers who are committed to improving the diversity of skills in young performing artists.

Here at THESPA we believe the performing arts is for everyone, and we are committed to being a welcoming and accepting space for all students with a love and appreciation for the arts. There is no skill level or experience needed to

join THESPA. We have classes available from the age of two all the way to adult so there truly is something for everyone!

OUR MISSION

We are dedicated to providing top of the line training and experience to all of our students. We believe the benefit of effective training in performing arts prepares those who are wanting to pursue a career and further their training, while also providing skills in confidence, work ethic, fitness and

social skills for those who want to work in other careers.

CHRISTINA HARVEY

Meet Christina Harvey, the talented studio director at THESPA, whose extensive experience in the performing arts world sets the foundation for our creative community. With years dedicated to nurturing artistic expression, Christina has proudly collaborated with her daughter, Helena McHugh, fostering a love for the arts that runs deep in their family. Together with Helena and Cameron, she has worked tirelessly to bring to life New Plymouth's premier performing arts space, a vibrant haven where artists can thrive, collaborate, and shine. Under Christina's guidance, THESPA continues to be a beacon of inspiration and creativity for performers of all ages.

HELENA McHUGH

Helena, a proud graduate of NASDA, holds a Bachelor of Performing Arts with a specialization in Musical Theatre. Her impressive career features a long list of choreographed events and performances on international stages, showcasing her talent and dedication to the art form. After gaining invaluable experience around the globe, she is thrilled to return to New Plymouth, where she is eager to inspire and share her passion for the performing arts through teaching. With her unique insights and creative energy, Helena is excited to make a meaningful impact in the local arts community.

CAMERON McHUGH

Cameron, a 2019 graduate of NASDA, is passionate about music direction and teaching. He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning and a certificate in vocal pedagogy from New York Vocal Coaching, showcasing his commitment to educational excellence. As the founder of Cameron McHugh Music in New Plymouth, he provides private lessons and workshops aimed at helping aspiring musicians enhance their skills in a supportive environment. With his extensive knowledge and enthusiasm for the arts, Cameron is well-positioned to make a significant impact in the local music community.

LAURA-LEE SCHUTTE

Laura-Lee Schutte is a versatile vocalist, actress, writer, and teacher from South Africa, with a rich background in theatre and collaboration with prominent directors and artists. As the founder of BRAVO!, an academy aimed at developing emerging performers, she has dedicated her career to mentoring talent. Excited to join THESPA, Laura-Lee is eager to use her extensive experience and creative skills to inspire and engage with the local arts community.

BRYLEE COPESTAKE

Brylee Copstake, a Fran Grey Award winner, has been dancing since the age of three, demonstrating her dedication to the art form early on. Brylee has successfully completed exams in multiple dance styles, including Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, and Contemporary, through the New Zealand Ministry of Education and the Royal Academy of Dance. Her accomplishments highlight her commitment to dance excellence and her passion for sharing her expertise with others.
